Batik Beauties Pat Rambo and I collaborated on Batiks Beatuies. It won Third Place a the New Jersey Quilt Convention. This quilt is to be featured in an upcoming issue of McCall's Quick Quilts magazine! Keep an eye out for it! Click the thumbnails below to see close up of the quilting.
This year, the NJ Fiber Artist theme is Dwellings.
The beach was the perfect choice for this theme, so I created Summer Winds. I was invited to participate in a special exhibit
of New Jersey fiber artists for the 2003 NJ State Convention entitled
"Pushing the Envelope". I used tons of threads and yards. The
quilting is a little over the top, but that's what I was trying to do - push the
envelope. Here is Shoot for the Stars! It is featured in a traveling show entitled: The Proverbial Challenge. It's made with approximately 10-15 different types of decorative threads.
Here's a piece that was made for a show at the Markeim Gallery in
Haddonfield, NJ. Unfortunately, I was unable to participate due to
scheduling conflicts. Together, Carolyn Vehslage and I interpreted a sunscape artistically.
It's hard to see in this picture, but there are over 20 specialty threads used
for embellishment and quilting. All of the fabric used in the quilt was
painted by hand - including the main scene. This really is a "must
see in person" quilt! I called it "The Original Flying Machine" Winner of the Icarus 2000 Art
Show This quilt was made with all of my hand-painted fabrics. The border is my favorite with the fern sun-prints! Other Cool Stuff! At a class in Maine, Beth Maitland of Impressions in Fabric completed this quilt top during the Curved Piecing class. Wow!
Look at what Sarah Hahn, quilt artist, did as a commission piece with a painted
landscape: Wes, a retired fisherman from
Washington State, made this guitar from my sunprint fabrics. Talk about
cool!
